Stream Clean Ups

What does it say about our neighborhoods when we allow trash in our streams?

As stewards of our watersheds we need to protect and connect with the streams and rivers around us.  One way we can do this is to conduct stream clean ups.  Green Valleys Association has organized volunteer clean up events since (year needed), partnering with residents and local business employees to gather up and haul away thousands of pounds of trash from our local watersheds.

Waste products from houses, industries, farms, and roadways are among the top threats to our waterways.  Stormwater runoff from rainstorms washes litter, animal waste, pesticides, and more into streams, ponds, lakes, and rivers.  This destroys aquatic ecosystems and threatens our health.  Working together with fellow volunteers to heal (our local watersheds) is a powerful way to instill pride in our natural (heritage) and bring communities together.

Nominate a Stream for Some TLC

Have you seen “trashy-looking” stretches of streams here in Chester County?  We need your help to find stretches of stream that can use a little tender loving care.  Do you know of any streamside stretches of land, or a stretch of road bordering a creek that is littered with bottles, cans, or even car tires?  Please help us identify candidate clean-up sites in your neighborhood.  Call the Green Valleys staff at 610-469-2218 to let us know, or e-mail us at gva@gvawaterdata.org.
